Why Not Give Budget Make Up Brands A Try?

Make up can be expensive; that’s an unfortunate fact. The most premium brands, offering products that promise to work near miracles in return for your hard earned cash, can be eye wateringly expensive – the kind of money you’d usually spend on rent. Thankfully, many budget brands of make up also exist, particularly those that are sold in grocery stores and supermarkets.

Unfortunately, the budget make up brands rarely get a decent write up from the premium obsessed beauty media. While you do get what you pay for, and the quality of budget make up may not be the quality of premium and designer brands, that doesn’t necessarily mean the brands are terrible either. By and large, the main difference in what the product claims to do.

For example, a premium mascara may be marketed with claims that not only does it apply colour to your lashes, but it also helps to extend and lengthen each individual lash. Whether it does or not depends on the product, but that’s the claim. However, budget make up brands will mostly be advertised on the strength of the colour they provide, rather than outlandish claims of lengthening, curling or even nourishing. That means you can steal buy mascara for an affordable price, that will still look good on if all you wish to do is darken your lashes.

Don’t dismiss budget beauty brands and make up. While some may not be for you, there are plenty of decent brands out there that don’t cost the earth, and genuinely do compete on efficiency with their premium cousins.

I think that you can get very good makeup without paying the top price. Sometimes it takes some trial and error to find makeup that is good quality, but in the end it is worth it.

I personally use budget brands and they work just like the ones with premium brunds. Sometimes even the cheaper ones are the ones delivering the satisfactory result. Well it really depends on the person.

I also use many “budget brands” when it comes to makeup and have found that sometimes they work just as well, if not better, than the premium priced products. A lot of times you are simply paying for the name when you get those higher priced items, and because of this I have found that some of the more expensive brands tend to skimp out on quantity or quality becasue they know their product will still be purchased. With the budget brands, they sometimes (not always!) focus more on making their product well enough to be able to compete with the more well-known brands. Sometimes (if you can find the right company) this can work in your favor! Glad someone else feels similar!

I try to buy an even amount of budget and premium brands. There are some things, like eye make up, that I tend to always go with the premium brands. Others, like lip gloss or blush, I don’t mind to buy cheaper brands. So I still get a polished look without spending hundreds every time I shop.

Tough subject. I agree with the post. There are good drug store makeups, and some great make up is actually sometimes found to be the cheapest, such as E.L.F, some of their products are outstanding while others really do show the signs of cheap makeup. However, I have bought department store makeup before that I was totally disappointed with… price definitely doesn’t mean your getting a good/bad product. It is about ingredients and the users skin! Right?

I almost refuse to buy regularly priced makeup I buy most of my products from the grocery store. Its interesting that they can offer similar results with less cost just do to marketing.

      Hi Jennifer
But I think we need to be very selected when it comes to the skin products. After all, you are directly applying to the skin especially facial. Assumption is cheap products are very risky because they don’t follow proper testing methods

I can’t do that because the cheap stuff I normally tends to break me out, but the stuff I get isn’t too costly just not as cheap as some of the makeup can be though that’s only with base. Eyeliner I always just go to the dollar tree an get the darkest black most eyeliners except the shimmer stuff all look the same no matter what the price.

People who are in financial trouble should go for budget make up brands, in my opinion. But those who can afford to spend lots of money, may choose the better brands.

Budget products can be horrible at times, but these products often can save you money.

Amen! I am glad to hear your thoughts on the budget beauty brands. I was more frivolous when it was just myself to buy makeup for but now I have a teenage girl! Not only is she using the makeup but she is experimenting; going through so much more then I want to pay for. I’m sending her the link to this article now, so she can know I’m not the only one picking some lower cost products…and IT’S OK!

having being made redundant a few months back, and have had to make quite a few sacrifices, but to my surprise the makeup hasn’t suffered as much as i thought it would, yes i buy pretty much half what i used to but what i am getting even if it is a bit cheaper, especially some of the foundations aren’t actually as heavy on my face as my previous higher brand
