Foundation Makeup Tutorial
When an artist is working with a medium that is not flawless, he or she uses a primer. In the same way, we don’t all have perfect skin. So we need to use a foundation to give a clean canvass for our cosmetic work of art. So it is key to understand how to apply a foundation for your makeup before anything else.
The first thing to understand about foundations is this, it is not for adding color. Blush, lipstick, eye shadow, and others are where the color comes. The foundation is for hiding the imperfections. So a foundation should look as natural as possible. In order to do that, it needs to match your natural color. Remember with a foundation, the less it is noticed the better. Also keep in mind, most skin is really yellow based, not pink. So you will want to find a product that is yellow based.
After you understand that, you need to figure out what kind of skin you have. Is it dry or oily? Some combination? Different types of makeup foundation will work better with different skin types. If you are unsure, go to a cosmetics counter at major store in one of your malls and speak with one of their professionals. They will try to sell you their products, and if it is in your price range fine. But you can get an idea of what you need and shop around.
When applying, you need to make sure your face is clean. Perhaps go get a good facial. Or do it yourself. Remember to take care of your skin. Then apply a sheer foundation. You have already figured out the color by now. Start with a wedge or a brush at the hair line and work your way down to your throat area. Be sure to blend it down there so you can’t see where the end is. And blend at the hairline, but be sure not to apply the makeup to your hair. It will look more natural. Around the eyes, do very gentle stokes and do not apply the foundation on your eyelids.
That is it. With a solid foundation you can work your magic of enhancing your beauty. You can add an illuminator for a more youthful look, but we are talking basic here. Get comfortable with applying the foundation, then don’t be afraid to experiment.
